God knows the last time I updated this thing So much has
happened since Graduation (the last time i wrote an entry). College has
been wonderful to me. Met tons of people and became close to a handful.
I have an awesome roommate and we plan to room together next year!
Doing Marching Band was the best decision ever! My boyfriend Dan and I
are almost at 4 months! I've gained so much muscle in my arms and
calves. I'm practically in the music school for percussion, audition is
the only thing left! I've gone to a few parties and yes, I've drank,
played beer pong, won 3 rounds of beer pong, yet have only been buzzed.
Classes are doing well, all As or Bs (most are borderline, like within
2 points boarderline). Also got extremely involved extracurricularly.
Business: American Marketing Association, Smith School Women's Society
(VP of Marketing and SUSA Rep), Ballroom Dancing, and Chinese Culture
Club.
I've adapted to college so well! Over Thanksgiving, i couldn't wait to
get back! mainly b/c i missed my Boy Toy :-* I love having a real,
long-term relationship. Jonee told me college is the most domestic
you'll ever get before marriage. its true! Dana is going out with Bob,
so we use the room well (and no, no one has or is planning on having
sex). My week usually consists of class, food, time with Dan, and Band.
hw/studying in there too. going to bed before midnight is a rarity.
Marching Band: I'm in Drumline. Yes, i've assimilated from Pit into
Drumline. I march on a field and learn 4 shows a semester. I do mad
awesome visuals, have control of the cymbal line (yay cymbal squad
leader!), and hold for snares. The Drumline knows me as Kodak. That's
my nickname. i lucked out, its not sexually connotated, its just
racist! (Asians take lots of pics, and i have a photo graphic memory).
At least i didnt get Slam Piece (ie Fuck Buddy). Everyone in Drumline
has a nick name. Scum Bucket (cum dumpster), Mushroom Stamp (mark made
on your body when you're slapped with a penis), Schmegma (penis
cheese), Flagella, BJ, Blumpkin (getting a blow job while taking a
shit), Tater Salad, Monroe Transfer (2 people stick 1 tube up their ass
and one shits in it), Meat Tarp (overhanging labia). Not all of them
are sexual. Womp Womp, BGWeeG, Lee, Red, Sodah, Anchorman, Turbo,
Raul. Don't ask me how or where they come up with these. Their parties
are awesome, Honi is the best and my favorite drink! The best part of
DL is that i met Dan there.
I LOVE dating a percussionist!
I've hit 3 trumpets and 1 clarinet, percussion is the best! We're
opposite in a lot of ways, but it keeps things fun and interesting. He
looks like Harry Potter, home is VA, is a sophomore, conveniently his
dorm is adjacent to mine, and my dad, gma, aunt, and uncle like him.
Mom, she's never really liked any of my bfs right off the bat, except
Eric (still holds the best date ever!), but Dan is my best boyfriend!
Anyone here at CP can vouch how happy we make each other!
Life has changed so much from High School. Things (and people) that
seemed so significant are pointless. I've kept close with my best
friends and those in my group. I've grown up even more. I've proven to
my parents that i'm applying what they've taught me (especially things
my mother has taught me). I'm used to wearing shoes in the bathroom. I
hate how people are loud and drunk on weekdays before Thursday. I love
how i still get to see Weber, Bob, Chip, plus K^80, Rachelle, and
others! Poker is fun, esp that i've learned techniques in Texas Hold
Em. I'm almost sick of Diner food (i love my dads cooking). I can hop
on the metro and go to DC. I can go anywhere without a purse *gasp*
yes, i know. i just have my ID/wallet, cell, and watch. Still, it's
gonna feel good to be home.

Graduation (2 weeks as Parkville alumni) and Graduation Par-tay! Graduation was May 29. I didn’t cry until the end when I saw Linds and we hugged. Mind u, I got teary-eyed both times Pomp and Circumstance was played. My blessed lil percussionists, I could hear the other parts added like the triangle and ben on the tambourine (wrong instrument for the song, but it was touching). It was a pretty nice ceremony. I liked Arpun’s unconventional Valedictory speech. All 4 years I’ve played at graduation with Wind Ensemble, this time it was Light Eternal. 1st time I didn’t play Pomp and Circumstance – I was marching to it.
My closest relatives were there – mom, dad, grandma, Aunt Linda, and Uncle Hong. Lots of pictures afterwards. Then we went to brunch at Canton Pearl – nice food. Opened up some of the gifts too.
Graduation Party:
I prepared the food with dads supervision. I know how to handle a Chinese Cleaver, wrap wonton in a fancy manner and pan fry them, marinate a pork roast and Chinese chicken wings, chop ginger and garlic, make the lychee/cherry desserts, all that. thanks to everyone else who brought food. That morning I bought a dozen balloons from Giant. The lady overblew them, so they kept popping til I had 4 left at the end of the day (luckily 2 stayed alive at the mailbox).
Total, we had 55 people in and out of the house. It was really nice to have family, friends/peers, and friends of the family. All us teens were downstairs (I love my basement!). Robert, my lil cousin, was pretty well behaved. Andrew, thanks for teaching him that goldfish swim in soda. Steve, he was NOT violating u.
Much thanks to my friends who contributed to the musical performances that we were sort of forced into, but had fun. I played piano and bells. Ryan attempted remembering bells (all drumline now… for shame?…), Katelyn and Steve for doing Show Choir w/ me, Sara on the piano too. Very entertaining.
So much has happened its hard to recap after all this time (hence, my daily entries on my wall calendar). Felt it needed an update. Current Mood: nostalgicCurrent Music: Pomp and Circumstance | | Sunday, May 22nd, 2005 | | 11:39 pm |
SENIOR BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LJ about Senior Ball
OMG, Senior Ball was sooooooooooo wonderful! A white stretch limo came to my house at 5 where 4 couples (Mike Bachelor & Kristen Hawkins, Kelly Opert & James , Me & Eric Shaffer, and Matt Weber and Catie Pieper) were picked up. We had the normal storm of parents taking pictures (literally) left and right. That was a sweet limo with a CD player, tv, mini bar, champagne glasses (we stopped at Kristen’s work and next door got sparkling cider. It didn’t explode…). We drove downtown and screamed “Yay Orioles!” and “Phillies Suck” til the driver said stop… We walked round the Inner Harbor for 15 minutes and hit the bathrooms at Pier 5 Hotel (with the automatic paper towel dispenser). Since we still got to the Towson Sheraton 20 to 8, we had a nice tour of Towson (no Towson Circle). We were the 1st to arrive in a limo and we watched thru the tinted windows as everyone crowded at the windows wondering “who the heck just pulled up in a limo?!?!” and then the chauffeur rolled out the red carpet (yes, we had a red carpet) and we came out! that was sweet! I remembered the tickets this time.
Eric was the best date I could’ve ever asked for!!! He was such a gentlemen, parents like him, he got along w/ my friends, hes a band nerd (so was James, Kelly’s date so there were 4/8 of us in the limo who were talking about band and annoying the other 4), he had his arm around me and held my hand, he was comfortable, he danced, he downed FOUR (count em 4!) sugar packets with me, he held my drink, he took pics with my camera, he kept Catie company at the table while we danced, we talked about soo many things, he paid for the formal pictures, and omg, he was the BEST DATE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! J (so thanks Dori)
We got to Ball and got formal pictures 1st before food and dancing messed up our attire. Ball was “A Midnight Summer’s Dream” theme so the background was like a Parthenon look. Everyone looked so beautiful/handsome last night! And the food and atmosphere was really nice. There was this huge screen showing the music videos to the songs the DJ was blasting. People were dancing most the night, I was up there at least half the time whether with Eric or my chicas, like Juls and Heather, pulled me up. Even Catie got up a while and danced w/ Matt. We had gingerale in champagne glasses and goodies to take home. Eric and I would call out every time we heard our instrument in the music like “oo trumpet” or “Snare, Bass Drum, tambourine!” and I came to the conclusion that there is no guitar in “black people” music. its true! I told this to Mr S (and that Eric and I also called out Key Changes, ritardondos, and figured out intervals) and hes more convinced I should be a music major. Hehe, I’m minoring…
The limo took us to After Prom Party. Most of us changed inside and then piled our stuff into Matt’s trunk. Catie had to leave b/c she was physically exhausted (I’m glad ur better sweetie, and don’t feel bad!!!) It was “Keep the Ball Rollin’” theme. They had casino tables for blackjack, poker (5 card stud and draw, 7 card stud; the last dealer was awesome just giving up pots of money at once! Yay high card draw!), roulette (sooo learned how to sorta play at the Hubicki’s table), and carnival games, like the ball maze (so won that a few times) and the cars and ring the bottle. Omg, the surfboard was awesome! I sooo owned that ride! I stayed on for about 40 seconds the 1st time, it was soo freakin sweet! The guy in charge said I was one of the best he’d seen that night! Of course, Eric fell off the 1st 5 seconds. lol. not even time for a picture. Hehe. Dad was working the After Prom behind the Guests’ Prize Table. Haha, matching bowtie and cummerbund. We got soo many pics that night (others got more than me) it was great getting blinded by soo many flashes! And I learned how to lean back and take a pic of me and a person! (I still prefer giving it to someone else).
Come the end of the night, round 3:30, they started calling the big prizes. Everyone was just lounging in a chair waiting for them all to be called. Jess won 4 things! I didn’t win any of the hundred some door prizes or any of the raffles, however, I DID win the GRANDE PRIZE - $750 check!!!!!!!!!! omg, that makes up for not winning a door prize!!! I jumped out of my seat and I actually got a round of applause. Thank God Freddie was in the bathroom b/c his name was called 1st. O well, gotta be present to win! After After Prom Party, dad drove Eric home, and after saying our goodbyes and giving huge hugs and making sure we had everything, dad and I got home at 5. Last night was better than I could’ve ever planned!

It's Almost the End! Today, everything musical finished! well, this week.
- wed was my last band concert (it went pretty well. Florida songs plus Light Eternal and my mad mallets dash with double mallets on vibes! Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion kicked ASS. i sooo owned the timp part i was sightreading! plus the whip and bells :-D)
- last choir perf (with show choir, we rocked it for not having practiced and i sooo owned my solo in Take Back Your Mink!!!)
- today was last piano recital (Ms Laurie cried at the end when playing Rhapsody in Blue with the 3 graduating seniors. we did soo well!)
- today was solo and ensemble (played marimba, grade V Brandenburg Concerto #2 Mvt 1. got a 1!!!!!!)
now i dont have to practice anything. its so weird! what am i going to do with, omg, am i going to have it, dare i say, free time?!?!
All APs are done!!!!! thats sooo exciting! no more work in those classes and the tests werent too too bad: Eng Lit, Bio, Macro, and Micro. i know i got at least a 3 on all of em.
this is the last week of classes. Senior Ball is saturday and i cant wait, especially since i have an awesome date!!!! yea, yay Eric! limo, ball, after prom. woo hoo!
i'll update later about Florida too. i typed up all the quotes! b/c i soon will be passing on the quote book, along with my other Pit possessions... :-( it's a happy melancholy time)
anyhow, too hyper to do much else. until later! Current Mood: energeticCurrent Music: Do-Re-Mi (Yay Sound of Music) | | Saturday, April 9th, 2005 | | 10:29 pm |
Four days, count 'em FOUR! we have Four days til Florida and i am sooooooooooooo excited! this is the only thing i've counted down to - i havent even started counting down days til graduation! this evening i went to the mall w/ my gma to get her a new watch b/c hers broke. stopped by Gloria Jean's and got half pound of Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans (not coffee beans, they're espresso beans). that'll give us the necessary boost we'll need in the morn b/c we got lack of sleep.
its official. i've caught senioritis. the night after i enrolled at College Park, i was lying in bed and thought "holy crap, I'm a college student!" and that thought, just omg, things are changing soo fast.
i'll know soo many people at College Park. KK emailed me from Girls State and she'll be there! hehe (KK n Freak-a-leak) and then thanks for Chip and Bob, i've already met sooo many other soontobesophomores (Rachel, Collin, Katie, Nick). i cant wait! Final College Decision I heard from University of Pennsylvania online Thursday at 5:20 pm (it took 20 minutes to get in...). i didnt get in but...
that made the decision to go to University of MD, College Park a heck of a lot easier! and anyhow, i was good in the running b/c i got deferred Early Decision to Penn, so being deferred from an Ivy League, not too shabby.
i'll be happy at MD, i know that already. i already have plenty of Terps gear and red clothes and have family 5 minutes away for food and laundry (yay Aunt Linda!).
Pros: Honors programs (big decision now is between Gemstone and University Honors), top end of the Dean's Scholarship, was directly admitted to the Robert H. Smith Business School for my Marketing major, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center has an outstanding music program and facilities (didnt make music minor on piano b/c its so freakin competitve and they accepted less than 10%, so i'll audition on percussion next year and get in), i know so many people already, in state tutition always a plus.
enrolled 2 nights ago. i was lying in bed last night and thought "Holy crap, i'm a college student now!" Current Mood: exuberant!Current Music: Avenue Q Soundtrack! | | Monday, March 14th, 2005 | | 4:48 pm |
Legalized to be appease Catie and others who have bugged me about no b-day entry, here it is:
I'm 18!!!! I'm Legal!!!!
hehe. so on my birthday, Katelyn gave me a very polically correct balloon with a blond girl, white boy, redhead with glasses, black boy, and a chinese girl :-) also gave me 18 hershey kisses. got kisses from someone that day ;-)
the next day in band, Freyer told the class that if we played well with effort she had a treat for us and it was edible. so she ended class 20 minutes early and she asked billy to bring out 2 tables. she brings out this sheet cake, and i'm thinking nothing of it, and opens it and it says "Happy 18th Briana". I am completely shocked as i'm standing on the steps! then the whole class sings happy birthday (of course it wasnt all in tune b/c we're band, not chorus). Freyer got it for me b/c she felt bad for having me come to perc ense practice and it was also for making All-State Orchestra. i love Freyer, shes the best!
On Sat, my parents took me and some school friends to dim-sum and Hong Kong restaurant in Columbia on lake kidamakundi (or h/e its spelled). i wished i couldve invited more people, but the people who came knew each other: matt, heather, bev, mel, catie, mels mom, me, mom, and dad. Me, Matt, and Mel were in Ms Fritzsche's car jamming out full blast to band songs! sooooooooooooooo great! food was delicious, as always. i got free cheesecake b/c it was my bday. dad took lots of candid pics. fav one was of my butt by accident when i leaped to give mel a hug for the Contemporary Broadway Piano book. i love it! it has "I Enjoy Being a Girl" in it, my song (which i finally saw the Gap commercial yest).
i liked being 18. Current Mood: chipperCurrent Music: Happy Birthday to me | | Monday, February 28th, 2005 | | 2:52 pm |
omg, All-State All-State was such a wonderful expereince! i was so nervous doing in, but once i got there and began seeing some people who i knew from all-co or side by side or just from somewhere (like Elise!), it got better. and then u meet people who know these people you know.
there were 4 (or 5) perc in the Orchestra (one perc was a violin and played timp on Cappriccio Espagnol - of which i played castanets and tambourine. our conductor was one of the best i've had the priviledge of playing under - Alexander Jimenez. 1- i could follow his conducting. u know how some conductors have these crazy flourishes that u can follow, well he had flourishes but they worked. and he got really into conducting. 2- he had a personality. he wanted us to love the music, not just play the notes, but have passion behind it. 3- he understood us. he knew when we reached a point of "diminishing return" (yes he said that and immediately i thought "gr... AP Econ". 4- he was a percussionist and i learned a lot from him! like a new cymbal crash which, at first, seemed retarded and went against what u learned about cymbals b/c he wanted me to move the bottom one to the top and usually the bottom cymbal stays stationary. for castantets tho, i wasnt getting it exactly, so he said use hard yarn mallets instead. worked like a charm!
songs we played for our concert on sunday:
Die Meistersinger by Wagner [crash cymbals. rest 210 measures, CRASH, rest 6 more measures, CRASH, 5 more rests, end]; Ma Vlast (The Moldau) by Smetana [bass drum. fun rolls. played perfectly in sync w/ jeremy on cymbals], Carpriccio Espagnol (all 5 movements) by Rimsky-Korsakov [tambourine on part 1 - rocked it, part 4 - ok thumb rolls, still learning them. 5- castanets, afraid that i'd hit too hard, but its all cool], and our encore piece was Dance of the Comedians by Smetana [bass drum at ff. excellent!]. the last one was ssssssuuuuuuppppppppeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr fast! it was excellent! i rock at counting!
the concert was awesome. sounded sooo beautiful. its going to be sad to go back to play with the school ensembles... boring, unchallenging, and unmusical.
Highlights:
- I got a round of applause for my 2 cymbal crashes! whenever anyone had an awesome solo or played something outstanding, jimenez would give them a round of applause and everyone in the room would join in! i never got a round of applause for cymbals! it was so cool!
- side note: he told the clarinet, jason, that he played sexy
- when introducing ourselves in conversation during break, this girl asked what i played. i said "percussion." she said "ohh, you're the percussionist whos not a Stoner!" LmAo. i took a moment to think and its true! if u look at them all, go figure. that comment made my weekend!
- Dan and Chris got each other wet (by splashing each other's crotches with water. oh what i started by making a simple comment). they acted so gay sometimes, it was hilarious as Julie and i just watched on.
- learned harp.
- stories from Elise and then hearing stories about me from GBYO kiddies. i'll leave it at that for personal safety so someone doesnt kill me for saying something
- having an awesome roomy. been here 1 year from Shang-hai, Emily. poor thing, 1st time away from her mother. typical quiet asian girl, but she was so nervous. i'm glad i could be there to be her friend and make her feel good about herself and certain situations.
- lots of food. they fed us like every 4-5 hours! and buffet style
- cards. everyone played cards. in the lounge, 5 different groups of people, each playing cards
- i won Egyptian Rat Screw
- i learned to play Spoons
- got exercise by walking the entire building.
- getting a phone call from someone i wanted to call me :-D
- having mucho break times between rehearsals and meals and at night. it was like college just chillin in the lounge by the fake fireplace.

Gung Hei Fat Choi in english, Happy Chinese New Year! Year of the Rooster, or for those with a dirty mind, year of the cock. my grandma held the chinese new years celebration this year. i went over around 2 (after making a pit stop at greetings and readings for balloons to make the house easier to find. gma said shes never had balloons hung outside her house before and was thinking "what will the neighbors think!" last friday i went over to make wonton, last saturday, me and my cousin and aunt went over to make bao (pork buns). i love my grandma and cooking!
i also like having get togethers. i came early w/ the roast my dad wanted me to put in the oven (which turned out perfectly!) barb and wilson came early w/ eric (4 yrs) and trinity (3 yrs). so i stuck in mulan to keep the kids occupied and eric cuddled up w/ my on the chair. then kathy came w/ chloe (baby). when i hold chloe, she just stares b/c i'm the only cousin who looks like kathy w/ long hair and a quiet voice with her. she tried to eat my jade necklace! i worked in the kitchen a lot so i could entertain my friends afterwards.
around 4:30 i changed into the black chaing-sam (chinese dress. it used to be grandma's. fits everywhere except the bust, go figure). i was the hostess of the party, so i wanted to look chinese-y and glamorous (chinese style). also, when else am i gonna wear an chiang-sam? i know gma loved it b/c i look a lot like her when she was my age. i had on my jade pendent and matching gold/jade earings. i must say, i did look mighty stunning. if i can figure out how to put in pics, i will.
the friends that came (in order) matt, heather, keith, catie, linds, bev (an hour fashionably late). we all chilled in the 2nd bedroom upstairs mostly b/c it was too crowded downstairs, but we got lots of food 1st (and everyone came down for at least 1 second helping plus another plate for dessert which had 1 picec of cake and 3 pieces of pie). so lets see, who was the 1st person to spill some of their food? it wipes up, dont worry!
i had my new digital camera (and 3 things of batteries. that thing eats batteries up like crazy!). so lets see, who hated pictures: heather and keith. did i get pictures? yes. keith was difficult. lol. heather not so much. she at least cooperated for the nice one. lindsey went hitler on claiming people on the bed. bev and i modeled on the floor. bev also was eating noodles. matt and poochy. linds and i being scandalous on the bed (by accident, and no not like that ) keith riding a bike from 5 to 20 mph, then almost out the window. catie is my bohemian hippie! (thanks for the gifts from everyone. u didnt have to do that! we need to plan a date tho). matt and i are like brother and sister according to catie. everyone knew each other or got to know each other. it was wonderful. according to catie, this is what a college dorm room will be like, everyone just sitting on the bed, the floor, standing.
and my baby cousins kept coming around playing. Robert (4) and Eli (4) were playing power rangers going "bang bang bang bang". i didnt realize until last night how good i was with kids b/c i dont have younger siblings and dont baby sit. but i guess after so many family things, it comes. they listened to me and were acting very good for being w/ so many people. in this order is my friends who were the best handling them: Keith, Catie, Linds, Matt, Heather, and Bev didnt get a lot. but Robert absolutely loved Keith! he even gave him a hug and kiss goodbye! we have our kids trained well. hehe.
i did change out of the dress after eating (i couldnt breathe well after eating all that and in a tight dress). so i went from china doll to casual american. lol.
random quotes/moments:
~ Trinity is Keith's other girlfriend
~ Robert: "Keith. Where's Keith?"
Everyone: "Keith's over here"
Keith: "Yea, what did i do now?"
Robert: "You in trouble"
~ Keith and Catie agree, my grandma is a reincarnate of their grandmothers
~ Bev enters fashionably late. very late.
~ Matt making orgasmic noises after eating really good food.
theres more, comment if u rememebr more. and i'll try to get some pics up. overall, i had a wonderful time and i hope all of u guys did too! welcome to chinese culture!

FBLA Competition. actually fun!
Omg, the FBLA competition was soo much better than I thought! 1st place Public Speaking II!!! it was soooo much fun. Dressed up in the green business suit (skirt in winter is cold). Got out of astronomy early. Bus ride up a bit boring. Once we got there and heard the boring intro, the speaking competitions were put into this common room before going to individual rooms with the judges. We picked #s to see what order. Almost all Parkville people went last! I had fun intimidating the other competitors (I remember Chris saying at All-St he played his piece a tempo to intimidate others). So I commented to Reggie and Kaitlin “oh, this contest is sooo much easier than the American Legion Oratorical Contest. For that we had to memorize an 8-10 min speech then there was a 3-5 min extemporaneous speech picked from 4 topics, and we had to research the Constitution. I made it through 3 levels all the way to State so I’m gonna have fun with this, u don’t even have to memorize it and its on FBLA!” then I look up and see half the people’s faces just staring and jaws dropped in fear and awe. Haha, it was great!
The judges were nice. Before I went in, they said “you’re the last one.” “saved the best for last”. I enjoyed talking to them and I blew them away. I love my b/s speech! Theyre so much fun!
Dulaney was our biggest competitor. We brought like 25 kids, they had like 35, 90% asian. I was talking to this guy in line for food and asked “what school are you from?” “Franklin. Are you from Dulaney?” “haha, no I don’t fall under that stereotype.” LmAo. I almost made Andrew choke on his sandwich when I told him that. sooo great. Good food.
The awards ceremony: Public Speaking II was announced 1st, and I WON 1ST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I walked across stage with a smile on my face with confidence. I told them, the best for last! Parkville was cheering soo loud. We were rowdy and they prob thought we were arrogant b/c for everyone we cheered, hooted, and clapped. We stood if they won 1st! we were sooo rivaling Dulaney! Andrew got 1st over 2 Dulaneys and only 3 Parkville guys were the winners in 1 category! Ms Gresham was crazily taking pictures!
The bus ride home was the best part! Sitting in the back, singing random songs, the black girls and guys were having fun w/ me. And I was telling jokes like the pirate joke and the bells on the monks joke. They loved it! I’m a twinkie, theyre an oreo. LmAo. It was soooooo great, soooo much better than I expected! Now I sort of wished I could go to states b/c I would win (not being cocky, but this was a damn good speech!). but the perf arts Fl trip conflicts, and I’m def choosing Fl over FBLA. Oh well.
What a wonderful night. Devorah def prepared me well from last year. and now I actually know more people in this organization of which I am Secretary. Lol. Current Mood: awakeCurrent Music: Mariah Carey's "I'm so into you, tell me if u love me too... | | Sunday, January 23rd, 2005 | | 12:04 am |

been a while yes i know its been a while. so general updates and big stuff:
1- Side By Side Concert was jan 11, 1st day of midterm so no one cept Freyer and Freeman could come from Parkville. LRA came which was cool and other schools. Katelyn, Arpun, and I represented the Parkvillians. this was a bitter sweet occasion. it was great to play again, but it was the last time i got to see all my drummer boys :-( marc, mike, and anthony. they were all soo great! playing with the BSO again. well, this time, pretty much all of us, didnt feel as prepared. i was sight reading half the stuff i played b/c 1- mike had his arm in a sling b/c he fractured some bones in his elbow doing kung fu (the Idiot!) and 2- since they didnt consider perc important enough to have one of the BSO percussionists come to the Master Class, they decided to give me more parts. bass drum on 2 more songs. yay sight reading skills! on the bright side, i did get to play on all 3 songs AND i had a MALLETS SOLO!!!!! i loved that! and the BSO guys told me i'm good at it. afterwards i got 2 pics (b/c thats all that was left in my camera) one of our hott percussion section and one of us parkvillians. food was good, as always. then since i didnt have to back to school, i went to LRA and had an hour discussion w/ Mr. St Pierre. its great.
2- over half the school year is over now. i was the highest in my class w/ health and magnet stats. AP Econ wasnt too bad, but still the most challenging. AP Bio, just sort of pay attn and do the work. i love band b/c i'm in charge of my lil percs and sometimes have hw days. AP French - none of us are going to take that test come may. unless we want a 1, a 2 if we're lucky. but none of that are that good. i did get the highest midterm grade in my class! 93% yea baby! and 20 points of EC. hot damn! AP Eng- my job is to keep sindhu from falling asleep. again. overall, pretty nice.
3- college stuff is crap. my college park audition is this coming saturday. wish me luck. i'm soo nervous. i really want to get in for that music minor.
4- its snowing. but why couldnt it snow on a school day? why the weekend? if u consider shoveling the driveway playing, then i played in the snow. lol.
5- matts awesome for burning me 3 CDs, all of which i'm listening to. thanks matt! Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: band songs. a whole buncha band songs, like Mannin Veen | | Friday, December 31st, 2004 | | 12:47 am |
but... the caffeine... its all gone.... yesterday was soooooooo great! my cousin eddie called up the house and i didnt know who it was b/c i dont know his voice that well yet and he was playing around with me for like 5 minutes before my dad and mom figured out who it was. "BLOW IT OFF!" lol. so i drove over to gma where they were visiting and stayed for like 7 minutes before i had to head off to catie's house and i was like 3 minute late. gave her her xmas gift and we swapped senior portraits, then we headed off in our separate cars to White Marsh (and hit almost every freaking red light along the way... gr...)
arrive a little late, but it looked later b/c the guys decided to wait outside in the cold instead of inside out of the wind. but it was great! me, matt, catie, chris, ryan, mel, and jessie! (oh, and jessie's little bro and his friend). so since matt got me a starbucks gift card (which, btw, is not accepted in barnes and nobles... piece of shit), we went back to the actual starbucks. i got a grande peppermint mocha and for some reason it didnt make me go as hyper as usual. sure there were more jokes and comments and laughter, but not like my usual, bounce off the walls after 10 minutes like i have with the white chocolate mocha. and this was a larger size too! matt, on the other hand, was hyper. yes, matt u were more hyper than me towards the beginning of the night.
so after hitting barnes and nobles (and listening to "Last Christmas") we headed to see Ocean's 12, which turned out to be an ok movie (i still like Ocean's 11 better). and the seating was nice. (this is public, so i can't go in depth). i made fun comments to chris throughout the movie. haha, julia roberts played herself. lol.
afterwards, we hit Don Pablos. yay all-u-can-eat nachos and salsa! ordered my shirley temple with a little ice, a lot of grenadine, and a lot of cherries. i had sugar packets too. i took one, not many people noticed. then i ate a 2nd. they noticed. so mel took the sugar container away from me. when she wasnt looking, i grabbed 6. i stuck them in my lap. mel told me to ration them, so i did. i had a 3rd. by the 4th, i had it open, in my hand, but catie grabbed it! so then i went and got another in my lap. but catie was laughing so hard, i grabbed the open one off the table and had 5. see, now after the 2nd one i was hyper and that was the high and fun i needed! it felt sooo great! they didnt want to let me drive home afterwards though...
Best part: walking out to our cars, 5 out of 7 of us were singing our parts to Mission (b/c 5/7 were in MB) and there are 5 people outside of Bayou Blues Cafe and as we were singing, i was in the front singing loudest, the 1 woman (white, in her 30s or 40s, and completely drunk) approaches me and says "ooooooo you guys look like fun!" and after thinking "wtf?" i said "yea, we are" by this time we've all stopped singing and she says "well, why did u stop singing? keep singing...." i probably shouldnt have asked how they got their mardi gras beads. and then another part was chris's cell phone goes off and he bends over to hear and the woman asks "is ur friend sick over there?" matt says "no, hes talking on his cell phone" then the woman behind her says "oh, thats too bad b/c i have a digital camera and wanted to take a picture" lmAO oh my god, that made my night, talking with drunk people.
"and that kiddies, is why u shouldnt drink and drive" Current Mood: hyperCurrent Music: "Last Christmas" | | Thursday, December 23rd, 2004 | | 11:29 pm |
Mad Lib fun (oh god i love my mother sometimes)
"THE CHRISTMAS SONG" Christmas Fudge roasting on an open fire. Santa Clause nipping at you cock. Yuletide jingle balls being sung by a chior And folks dressed up like "Santa's Little Helpers" Everybody knows a pepperment stick and some mistletoe Help to make the glowing dildos bright. Tiny tots with their left nut all aglow Will find it hard to fuck tonight. They know that Jesus is on his way. He's loaded lots of whips and chains on his sleigh. And every pimp is going to try To see if cocks really know how to fly. And so I'm offering this orgasmic phrase, For calls girls from 69 to nighty-two. Although it's been said many times, many ways, Raunchy Christmas to you! can you figure out which words Kristin, Julia, and I (mostly the 1st 2)helped fill in for the madlib? 1st College Result so today, Friday, December 10, 2004 and 3pm i was allowed to access a website with my username and password given to me via postal mail to check my application status for University of Pennsylvania. 3 choices: accepted, defered, or rejected.
I WAS DEFERRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, i am happy about that. b/c that means 1- i didnt waste all my time filling out that application and 2- i didnt waste all my hours practicing piano and not audition for UMD! but now i have to wait til april to find out... i find out from College Park in Feb, so its down to those two...
but yay, 1st college notice!!!!!!! Current Mood: relievedCurrent Music: Lincoln Portait | | Thursday, November 25th, 2004 | | 11:17 pm |
Turkey Day how did my day start off? daddy wakes me up so i can see the 2-3 minute excerpts from broadway shows in the Macy's Day Parade and see the bands. then mom asks if i want to go swimming, so oblige. we go to Goucher's indoor pool.
i went surfing! it was sooo much fun! there was this other family with a surfboard and i learned how to swim out, stand up, crouch, balance, ride, and then wipe out. i did get in some laps (not my usual 50-60) but still sooo worth it.
family time: dinner at my cousin's in Laurel. i drove! dont u love having 3x more food than people? good though. i'm soo full. and i love my baby cousins. and i gave Kathy the cross stitch bib i made for Chloe. :-) watched the crappy football game of denver vs chicago. wow it sucked. after dropping off gma, i took the car home, watched the Apprentice, and am now online researching for Eng Sr Proj and chatting. What I do on the weekends since standardized tests no longer consume my time, music does. practice in the mornings, during lunch, after school, during band class, at home. and its all paid off. heres an update, chronologically:
Yay All-County Band (or Orchestra). i absolutely love it. i do wish i got into it earlier, o well. Orchestra. eh, band is always more fun. the dulaney trumpet guy agrees that we'd rather be last chair in band than 1st in orchestra b/c we'd actually get to play music! orch played 3 songs: Firebird Suite, Festive Overture, and Lincoln Portait. i had triangle, crash cym, and timpani. the timp part was the hardest i've ever had for Lincoln Portrait. and that is why i copied the music as memorabilia. i was with Mike O, Anthony S, and Sara K (the one who cant play). Anthony and Mike are awesome ("That was for last night!") never say that to a guy when u shove him in front of his friends. the concert was good, for orch at least. only 1 mess up (yes yes, damn celesta and miscounting measures).
i love knowing those in charge. like miles. i got us orch percussionist to play the last song with the band. and i got a mallet part. Sarah from Perry Hall was awesome to share. during the concert, me, mike, and anthony were joking in the back. (haha, Stick Shift). i love it. oh, and aubrey was in the orchestra!!! itd been sooo long since i'd seen my Charlies Angels Bitchin Sista #2 Lylas 4EVA. hehe. oh, and the band perc: craig, sarah, marc, and then some other patapsco guys. (and some of these guys arent bad looking at all to say the least.)
Mr. St Pierre has been so wonderful to me spending countless hours of drumlessons after school. i didnt think i'd make Side By Side b/c i screwed up sooo badly on my mallet piece. turns out they decided to accept 4 percussionists... and I'M 4th CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!! sure its weird to see my name at the bottom of the list, but still, i made it. and katelyn's gonna be my BSO Bandie buddy again! yay! plus, i love all the perc guys who i'm gonna be with: mike, marc, and anthony. i cant beleive anthony beat mike! but we all know why, its b/c the judges were a trumpet and a sax. wtf? yes, have a brass and woodwind judge percussion. very good. i have a hunch how i made it. all the good percussionists auditioned on snare and timpani. i was the only one who aud on mallets and timp (sara aud on mallets and snare which was stupid if ur going into an orch since u use timp). so i think that was my key. but hey, i made it.
oh, when i found out, it was on the announcements. i saw my name on a music announcement that amy thrusted in front of me so was like "Dan, read this b/c it has my name on it" and i thought it was just to wish all the all-co ppl good luck (b/c arpun's and kate's name were on it too and it said balt co something). when dan read "Congratulations to Briana Lee, Katelyn Chiles, and Arpun Nagaraja for making Baltimore County's Side By Side auditions" i jumped soo high in the air in shock and then i started crying for joy. i didnt think i would make it and i was distraught when i went to Mr St. P and told him. it was amazing. that made my whole day! this was the only audition i really wanted to make this year and i did it!!!!!!!!!!
All State aud were today. i dont expect to make all state. if they accept me, theyre despirate. i do like knowing people who audition now, like mike and marc and corey. we all shared what the pieces were. snare and timp sight reading were a bitch! 5/8 with random stuff and timpani doing 2 diff syncopated rhythms! wtf? mallets i did best on, minor mess ups, double mallest good, sight reading pretty good. snare i did well on prepared etude with minor mess up on 16th triplets. everyone bombed the sight reading. timp was pretty good except the damn pedal would not move any more! and dight reading i hit the wrong drum (g-flat major? wth?). it seems i enjoy these band things as more of a social event. hey, thats fine with me :-D.
Today was also the White Marsh Thanksgiving Parade. it was my last parade :'-(. *tear*. no one was allowed in the mall though, which sucked. the bus ride was fun, esp w/ my little sophomore in the back with me. we had 2 buses of people!!! Keras mouthpiece was left behind so she held the banner like Marissa did last year. our drumline was an embarassing 5 people with 3 snares and 2 basses no quints. perry halls drumline made up half our band. well, we were pretty big since we had the new kiddies, even tho we lacked some good players (stupid princeton model congress). keith gives good back rubs. i needed that. back of the bus is bumpy and hurts even if u have on a sports bra! the video taping of Mr John and Mr 20 was mad good. and hearing and seeing it all was amazing!
Parkville had its own Side By Side concert w/ the middle schools. i was in Wind Ens and was 1st chair. its a shame i'm not there next year b/c all the kiddies know who i am and loved me by the end. its so cute, even tho i picked on marissa a lot. i was allwoed to. i got to play too. these kiddies tried. i have a feeling at least 2/3 of the perc will be in the band. i sort of wish i was in WE, but the other percs just arent into it. i guess this is what happens once u reach such a level and have been exposed to so much. and thats not to sound cocky, but being in concert band just isnt challenging. at least i get much needed hw days. but my lil percs are wonderful. it makes it worth it. Yay Halloween Parades...
Saturday was the Hagerstown Mummers Parade in Hagerstown, MD. It is a freakin start-stop parade, but still, i luved it! it's my second to last parade :'-( But i was Right Guide of our line (consisting of me on bells, my pitster kristy on a smaller set of bells, a baratone, and a tuba).
+ we arrived 45 minutes ahead of schedule
- our only quints player didnt come because he arrived at school at 4 when the coach buses (yea, we had coach buses) left at 3:30
- we couldnt find a pair of bass sticks. so we had to ask Perry Hall, our rival school who was also there, if we could borrow a pair of theirs. oh god the embarrassment...
+ our band was at least 50 people vs. the previous 36
+ we had a cadence!!! And it was actually pretty kickass!!!
+ we had 2 parade songs: Mission and Fight Song ("Across the Field" same as Ohio State's Fight Song)
- marching bells can kill ur shoulders after an hour
- still never got people as my marching cymbals…
+ back brace is a god send when u have to carry a heavy instrument (trust me, I wish I found out about it before this year)
+ parents followed in wagon with water
- it was the squeezy bottles that can leak and 1- spill water straight down ur shirt and 2- get squirted in the back of ur throat so u cough
+ band better behaved than usual
+ very good chance of placing this time
+ no one tripped
+ no one fainted
+ or - no one ran over a judge
+ no drunk guys ran into the streets trying to hit on the Right or Left guides or color guard girlies
+ played the most of any band
- very very sore and tired
so this equates 13 +’s and 6 –‘s = +7. excellent! This just reiterates the fact that parades are still awesome, despite some downfalls. And try this adding/subtracting thingy, its actually pretty fun (kudos to k8).
And of course, everything bad is compensated for by a good band bus trip, such as madlibs, jokes, innuendos, and corrupting the minds of youngun’s. oh, another plus, we went thru 2 madlibs and didnt run out of words! hehe, what can I say? I got corrupted since I was a freshman, I’m just continuing tradition ;-) Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: Mission (what? we only played it x-# of times!) | | Friday, October 29th, 2004 | | 5:35 pm |
Homecoming and other news exactly a week, so much has happened!!!
Friday, Rob told me that SAT scores were available on college board at 8p. so at 8:15 i checked it. typed in my name and password. my goal was 1300. i got a 1430!!! i went on 30 in verbal which got me to a 630, but on math, I GOT AN 800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt beleive it. i didnt even realize it til mom told me i got a perfect. its amazing. i have no idea how i did it, but i'm very satsified with my score. my daddy took me out for icecream at the mall and i saw Erica from girls state. small world. i went out all decked out in my school spiritness too, pompom pigtails and all!
Saturday: HOMECOMING!!!!!! my collection of tickets is now complete. yay keychain tickets! case said she wants to photo copy my key chain now. lol. parade was awesome. according to case we were the only committee who had everything on track (haha, get it, we decorate the track too). i actually had people to help me this year, and it was the mostly the GT juniors so i was giving them tips and laughing at them. ngozi and liny came late, but they still contributed a lot. we had it undercontrol which was awesome. the grand marshall made it in plenty of time. dad said that bartenfelder said i should be a politician b/c i was gregarious and good with networking. :-) but no politics for me.
MB: we had the vets come back!!!!!!!! RYAN on bells CHRIS on clarinet MEL on mello STACEY on snare and JULIE on trumpet plus Ms Getchus and Mr Semansik on trumpet and all the new kiddies. we looked really good in the parade with all the people. and the field show we did well on too b/c we actually had an audience we wanted to play for. it was satisfying. sitting ont he bleachers waiting to play stand music, all the college students were there. i slept on mel and matt, chip blocked the sun, chris found a new ticklish spot (gosh darn it), ryan showed me new cymbal tricks.
after band i went home, showered, and changed. wore my black dress i had at prom with a blue sparkly shawl, black theigh highs and heels. hair was down b/c it had nice waves from the pony tail and mom helped me with my makeup. dinner was at applebees (no denny's for us). me, matt, elise, kelly, jenny, heather, lisha. a lil delay getting our table despite reservations... but we had fun. split a platter w/ elise (shes mine matt) and then since i wanted some dessert to split, the waitress recommended we get 3 and split it among the 7 of us. that was awesome!
Dance: Bob was my date (screw the "fake date" he was my date to homecoming). it was soo great to see him. but his car conked out so he couldnt make dinner. i was determined to get some pics, so i did. i dont think a girl has danced with him like i have for as long as i did. lol. i think i permanently scarred tim and tina. it was worth it. the decorations looked really good. i wanted the Lindsey Lohan poster so i could give it to Bob to piss him off... lol. i kept my shoes on the whole night. also gave alex a dance. hehe. joel won homecoming king. i cant beleive it (well i can) but i didnt vote for him. just oh god. after the dance was cool too in the parking lot with my own car to drive home!!! hehe.
